We are pleased to announce the opening of “The Ale Project”, the first craft beer focused taproom in Kowloon. We are located on Hak Po Street in Mongkok, a short stroll from the bustling ladies market. The Project’s main aim is to bring beer appreciation to a whole new level of sophistication and create a new kind of eating and drinking experience around it that is unique to Hong Kong.
TAP is founded by a group of self-proclaimed beer geeks that include certified beer judges, professional brewers, advanced homebrewers and beer dispensing specialists. Our beer list features a well-balanced and diverse variety of carefully curated and seasonally suitable beers. We pour an extensive selection of fresh, local brews including the full selection from Young Master Ales and select imports that have been treated with the highest standards of care during transportation and storage. We have also invested in the most advanced beer dispensing system in town, allowing us to store and pour beer in the best condition possible, just as the brewers intended. Besides beer, we will bring interesting new drink options like cold brew coffee on a nitro-tap, a small but interesting selection of biodynamic wine, all natural sake, locally made spiced rice wine and other seasonal specials.
The foundation of our food menu is locally hand-made artisanal bread. Bread has been inextricably linked with beer since the beginning of civilization with the same combination of cereal, yeast and water underpinning them both. We have partnered with Gregoire Michaud’s bakery Bread Elements and extensively use his sourdough based breads. Our selection includes a very special “beer bread” made with fermented malted barley and designed exclusively for us. We serve small “bread bites” with a changing selection of toppings, hearty sandwiches and other interesting nibbles to complement the drinks we pour. Just like our drinks, many of the food menu items feature ingredients and cooking techniques inspired by what’s around us in Hong Kong.
